From November 18 to 21, 2024, Orixine Consulting, in partnership with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), organized the final review of Nasarawa State’s Public Health Security and Public Health Bills. The four-day event, held at Golden Dabis Hotel in Keffi, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to finalize the critical bills aimed at strengthening the state’s health systems and legislative framework.

Participants included representatives from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Environment, Women Affairs, Finance, Justice, and Local Government Affairs. Other key stakeholders included the Nasarawa State Emergency Agency, State Primary Healthcare Development Board, State House of Assembly, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), World Health Organization (WHO), and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Barrister Alhassan Sabo from the Ministry of Justice set the tone with his opening remarks, highlighting the paramount importance of health in society. He acknowledged the organizers’ efforts and called on participants to apply insights from previous legal assessments to enhance the bills.

Over the course of the meeting, stakeholders engaged in detailed discussions, addressing unresolved issues in the proposed legislation. By the conclusion of the event, all outstanding questions were resolved, and the bills were thoroughly reviewed for submission to the governor. Barrister Sabo expressed gratitude to RTSL and Orixine for their support throughout the drafting, assessment, and review processes. He voiced optimism that the bills would be enacted into law before the end of 2024.

Orixine Consulting is proud to have played a key role in this important process. Supporting Nasarawa State’s efforts to improve public health governance aligns with our mission to enhance health outcomes through robust legislative frameworks across Nigeria. We look forward to seeing these bills positively impact health security and public health management in the state.
