Orixine joins the Technical working Committee On IHR and Pandemic treaty for its final meeting.

On July 28-29, 2025, Orixine joined the pivotal final meeting of the Technical Working Committee on the International Health Regulations (IHR) and Pandemic Treaty, held to discuss Nigeria’s path forward following the treaty’s adoption. Convened with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Federal Ministries of Health and social welfare (FMHSH), Environment (FMOE), Agriculture and food Security,(FMAFS),Finance (FMOF), National Office For Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Foreign Affairs, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), World Health Organization (WHO), Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), and other key Stakeholders. The session reviewed the committee’s two-year journey and formed actionable recommendations for Nigeria’s health security framework.
Established in February 2023, the Technical Committee of the Pandemic Treaty and IHR Amendments was created by the former Minister of Health, Dr. Ehaire Osagie, to provide technical guidance and advisory support for Nigeria’s engagement with the proposed Pandemic Agreement and IHR amendments. The Committee reviewed the two years of progress, addressing Nigeria’s health security framework and highlighting unresolved issues, particularly around Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS).
International Development Partners, WHO and RTSL, underscored the importance of the One Health approach, strengthening health systems, ensuring equitable access to pandemic response tools, and fostering global cooperation. They also highlighted challenges, including tight implementation timelines and inadequate enforcement mechanisms, urging proactive measures to address these gaps. WHO and RTSL reaffirmed their commitment to providing ongoing technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health, driven by a passion for advancing global health equity.
Dr. Nse Akpan, in closing, expressed gratitude for the committee members’ dedication and called for a comprehensive and joint implementation of both instruments in Nigeria and noted that there would be future discussions to refine the evolving PABS framework. Orixine’s active participation underscores its unwavering dedication to shaping a resilient, inclusive, and equitable global health landscape, positioning Nigeria as a key player in international health architecture.
