Orixine Consulting proudly participated in a four-day Learning and Experience Sharing Workshop organised by Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) in Lagos from February 18–21, 2025. The event brought together key stakeholders, including government agencies, legal experts, and civil society organisations, to share insights, successes, and strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s health security legal framework at the subnational level.

Representing Orixine, Barr. Aniekan Akpan highlighted the firm’s contributions to public health legal reforms, including two major milestones—the recently enacted Public Health Law of 2023 in Kaduna State and the Nasarawa State Public Health Security Bill 2024, which is currently before the State House of Assembly. He emphasised the efficiency of these legislative processes as a testament to the impact of well-structured legal advocacy.

During one of the plenary sessions, Barr. Akpan shared Orixine’s collaborative efforts with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the firm’s strategic approach to legal reforms. He underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement, rigorous legal assessments, and sustained advocacy in driving successful reform initiatives. He also stressed the critical role of media advocacy in ensuring that public health issues remain at the forefront of policy discussions.

The workshop, part of RTSL’s broader effort to refine legal tools for the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005, featured expert-led discussions on best practices, challenges, and opportunities for expanding Nigeria’s public health legal framework. Since 2019, RTSL and its partners have conducted 26 subnational legal assessments, leading to the passage of new public health laws in three states and ongoing reforms in several others.

As the workshop concluded, participants expressed appreciation for RTSL’s leadership in coordinating health security legal reforms, with closing remarks delivered by Mrs. Nanlop, RTSL Nigeria’s Country Director. The event reinforced the need for continued collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy to build a resilient legal framework that safeguards Nigeria’s health security.

Orixine remains committed to its mission of supporting legal reforms that enhance public health governance and will continue to work with key partners to drive meaningful legislative change.
